- Expression of Interest are invited for Opportunities Assessment for Urban Greening, Sustainable Urban Drainage and Erosion Control in Infrastructure in Dar Es Salaam. The World Bank and Government of Tanzania are exploring cost-effective and sustainable approaches to address the intense challenge of urban flooding which plagues Tanzanian cities and Dar es Salaam in particular. Sustainable design alternatives to conventional drainage channels can reduce the financial and environmental costs of such infrastructure by increasing on-site infiltration. Experience with during- and post-project erosion control at the project level has evidenced shortcomings in technique, choice of vegetation, and management of the planting process and has pointed to a need for a deeper understanding of challenges and solutions. The consultant will analyze and map opportunities and quantify the benefits for urban greening, open space development, erosion control and sustainable urban drainage systems.
